EcoFlow DELTA 3
A medium box that can grow. It keeps a fridge, Wi-Fi and phones going for about 5.6 hours, and EcoFlow says you can add extra batteries.
- 1,024 Wh
- Watt-hours: how much it holds
- 1,800 W
- Watts: how fast it gives power
- 3,600 W
- Surge: a short burst for start-ups
- 27.6 lb
- Weight: how heavy to carry
How long it runs your things
Estimates. Your devices may use more or less. One thing at a time, from a full box. We keep 85% of the watt-hours, because some power is lost on the way out.
What we think
The DELTA 3 is a medium box. It holds 1,024 watt-hours. Watt-hours are how much power a box holds. It gives up to 1,800 watts. Watts are how fast something uses power. Its surge is 3,600 watts. Surge is a short burst some things need to start, like a fridge motor.
What that means in an outage
By our math, counting a fridge at 120 watts, Wi-Fi at 15 and phones at 20:
- Fridge, Wi-Fi and phones: about 5.6 hours.
- Fridge alone: about 7.3 hours.
- Wi-Fi and phones only: about 25 hours.
- CPAP: about 22 hours, by our math, for a CPAP that uses about 40 watts with the humidifier off or low. Check the watts on your own machine.
These are estimates. Your devices may use more or less.
Why this one and not the DELTA 3 Plus
Both hold 1,024 watt-hours and give 1,800 watts. The difference is solar. This box takes up to 500 watts from solar panels; the DELTA 3 Plus takes 1,000. If you do not plan to buy panels, this is the one we would pick.
It can grow
EcoFlow says the DELTA 3 works with its extra batteries, up to 5,000 watt-hours in all. That is the reason to pick it over the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2, where Jackery does not say if you can add one.
Moving it and charging it
It weighs 27.6 pounds, a bit more than three gallons of water. The Explorer 1000 v2 weighs 23.8. EcoFlow says a full charge from the wall takes 56 minutes.
The limit
A space heater uses about 1,500 watts and would empty this box in about 0.6 hours. EcoFlow also lists a mode called X-Boost. That is a boost mode, not surge.
One thing we could not settle: EcoFlow's page gives two numbers for X-Boost, 2,200 watts and 2,600 watts. We go by the lower one.
Bottom line: a medium box for short outages that you can make bigger later.
Good for
Short outages now, with the choice to add an extra battery if your outages get longer.
Not for
Anyone who wants a light carry. It weighs 27.6 lb; the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 weighs 23.8 lb.
