Find my power

About KeepLights

KeepLights is a new, independent site that helps people in the United States choose backup power for their home. Here is who runs it, how we work and what we have not done yet.

One person runs this site

KeepLights is run by one person: Samuel Guerra, Mixco, Guatemala.

The site launched in October 2026, so it is new. No power station brand and no store owns it, pays for it or is its partner.

The person who runs it is not an electrician and has no lab. The work is reading: the maker’s page or manual for every product, and the official text of each state law that has passed. Then come tools that do the math in the open, so you can check it.

What this site is for

When the power goes out, you want to know which box will keep your things on, and for how long. A “box” is our word for a portable power station: a big battery with outlets. Our tools help you choose one.

  • Find My Power: pick the things you want to keep on and see which boxes fit.
  • Compare: put two boxes side by side.
  • Best Picks: our picks by need.
  • Plug-in Solar: small panels that plug into a wall outlet. We show what we could confirm about the rules in each state, with the source and the date.
  • Guides: short answers to common questions.

Today the site has 12 products with specs checked, 7 guides and 51 states checked for plug-in solar. Articles paid for by a brand: 0.

How we work

Sources, always linked

We read every product number on the maker’s own page or manual. For a state that passed a plug-in solar law, we read the official text. For a state with no law yet, we use a public tracker and say so. We link the source, so you can check it too.

We have no lab

We have not measured or used any product yet. Every product here carries only the “Specs checked” stamp. It means we read the numbers on the maker’s own page or manual. Nothing more. We do not say we used a product when we only read about it.

The answer comes first

Each guide starts with the short answer. Each pick says who it is good for and who it is not for.

Prices go stale, so we show none

Prices change every day. Amazon shows the current one. We also show no star ratings and no review counts.

When we get it wrong

When a number is missing, we say “We’re checking.” We do not guess. If you find a wrong number, a broken link or a law that changed, write to us. We fix it and the page shows the new date.

AI helps; a person decides and signs

AI tools help research and draft this site. The person who runs it reviews each page before it goes live, and his name goes on the guides. Numbers are checked against the maker’s page, or against the source linked on the page.

The math we use

The hours we show are estimates. We take the box size in watt-hours (how much power a box holds) and keep 85% of it. Then we divide by the watts (how fast something uses power) your things use. Your devices may use more or less. How we test explains the stamps and the math.

How we make money

Some buttons on this site are paid links to Amazon. If you buy through one, Amazon may pay us a commission.

  • You pay the same price with or without our link.
  • No maker pays to be listed, to move up or to get kinder words. Picks are not for sale.
  • Every paid link is marked on the site, on each button.
  • We do not publish articles written or paid for by a brand.
