Privacy policy
KeepLights has no accounts and no sign-up forms, so we collect very little. This page says what we collect, what Google and Amazon may collect, and what you can do about it.
The short version
- KeepLights has no accounts, no comments and no newsletter. No form asks who you are.
- We do not save your IP address in our database, and we do not sell your personal information.
- We count clicks on Amazon buttons, without names.
Today we do not measure visits with any outside tool. If we turn Google Analytics on, this page will say so.
We show no ads today.
What we collect ourselves
Clicks on Amazon buttons
When you click an amber Amazon button, our server saves one line:
- the date and time;
- which product or link you clicked;
- the page you were on, and the part of the site;
- a two-letter country code (US, other or unknown). It comes from your browser’s time zone, not from your IP address;
- a random visit key;
- our own Amazon tracking tag.
The visit key is a random code your browser makes for one tab. It lets us count visits, not just clicks, and it does not say who you are. We have no set date for deleting these lines. None holds a name, an email or an IP address.
To stop robots, our server counts Amazon clicks per IP address for up to one hour, in memory only. It never saves that count.
What your browser keeps
Our own code sets no cookies for visitors. It uses your browser’s storage for three small things.
| Name | Where | What for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| kl-theme | Local storage | Remembers light or dark mode | Until you clear it |
| kl-sound | Local storage | Remembers sound on or off | Until you clear it |
| kl-v | Session storage | The random visit key, sent to us only when you click an Amazon button | Until you close the tab |
Server logs
Our hosting provider is Hostinger. The site and its database run on Hostinger servers. Like most hosts, it may log each request for security: the IP address, the page asked for, the time and the browser type. The address of an Amazon button carries your time zone name and the visit key, so those may appear in the logs too.
Ads
We show no ads today. We plan to use Google AdSense. When we turn ads on, this page will say so. This is what will apply then:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. You can opt out of other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
Read how Google uses information from sites that show its ads.
Amazon and other companies
KeepLights takes part in the Amazon Associates program. When you click a paid link, you leave KeepLights and go to Amazon. Amazon can see that you came from our site. Amazon may set cookies on its own site, and it handles your information under the Amazon.com Privacy Notice, linked at the bottom of any Amazon page. Amazon tells us how many sales came through our links. It never tells us who bought what. We never see your Amazon account, your name or how you pay.
Other companies, including Amazon and Google, may collect information directly from you and place or recognize cookies in your browser.
Children
KeepLights is for adults in the United States. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If a child wrote to us, tell us and we will delete the message.
Your choices
- Clear site data. Your browser’s settings can delete everything in the table above.
- Block cookies. You can block Google’s cookies with your browser or a privacy extension. Nothing on this site breaks.
- Ask us. If you email us, we get your address and your message. We use them only to answer you and to fix the site. Write to contact@keeplights.com to ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Our own code does not change what it does when your browser sends these signals.
We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted ads, as US state privacy laws define those words. So there is nothing to opt out of today.
State privacy rights
Some states, such as California, give people rights over their personal information: to know what a business holds, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Those laws cover businesses above a certain size. Whatever your state, write to us and we will handle your request. We will not treat you differently for asking.
Who is responsible for your data
The person responsible for the data this site collects is Samuel Guerra, Mixco, Guatemala.
To ask anything about this page, write to contact@keeplights.com. One person reads that address.
Changes
If we change this policy, we post the new version here. The date at the bottom is the date the text last changed. We will not quietly start collecting something new and leave this page as it was.
